Currently, the cannabis industry is dominated by large corporations and MSOs (multi-state operations). These companies operate like any other largescale business in America, by cutting corners, sacrificing quality for quantity and profit, overcharging customers, not properly training and treated employees, and ultimately providing a sub-par final product to the consumer or medical patient. Examples of multi-state operations include companies such as Curaleaf, Verano, and Ayr Wellness. Products from these companies are sold at almost every dispensary in the United States. When a company scales up, its initial values and philosophies are inherently threatened. In 2022, the cannabis industry brought in 26.1 billion dollars, with 17.6% of that revenue coming from the 7 largest multistate operators. In 2024, 22% of the yearly revenue came from the same 7 largest multistate operators (Shaleen and Barcott). This trend of multistate operators growing drastically is extremely problematic, as it drives smaller businesses away and increases their own strength. Shaleen and Barcott says, “In today’s cannabis industry, the largest companies and their lobbying organizations actively court legislators to create laws that favor their size and scale. The larger these companies grow, the more resources they allocate to lobbying, further benefitting themselves, and making it increasingly more difficult for smaller businesses to enter the industry or even keep their place competing against these giants. These small businesses supply most of the high-quality products and are among the most innovative and human-driven companies. In addition to the economic growth that small businesses provide, perhaps the most important contribution small businesses provide is community and social-wellbeing. Maintaining or pushing product quality and focusing on the customers rather than profits and brand size are of utmost importance, especially when dealing with medical patients. I believe business expansion is detrimental to everyone except the owner and wealthy investors, which is why illusions focuses on understanding its role as a small business and encouraging others to do the same. To combat this problem, illusions is born. illusions takes pride in existing for the benefit of the consumers, and the earth. We lead by example on one of the ways in which a cannabis cultivation company should exist in the modern world. We are upfront about our processes, practices, information, and knowledge. Providing customers with detailed information about the plant and product they are consuming, our aim is to guide each user to have their own personalized experience with cannabis as a tool in their life.
